Zech Kint says he has always dressed differently, but it wasn’t until after he graduated in 2014 from Gov. Thomas Johnson High School that he considered fashion as a potential career, creating a line of clothing called Gelani Luxury. The business features T-shirts to hoodies and pants, averaging $60 each.

“It’s something I’m trying to grow and eventually turn into a full-time job,” says the designer, who is taking business and art classes at Frederick Community College. He lauds the support he receives from his parents and friends, as well as his religious faith. Kint works from home, using three sewing machines, sketching out designs or “sometimes just using the top of my head.” He promotes his clothing on a website and through Instagram and says “while I’ve been doing this I’ve even met some hip-hop artists.” His look is “young urban,” he says, with plans to design baseball caps and jerseys in his unique style. “I want to be getting my clothes out to everyone. Really, I can see anybody in these clothes, even the president.” www.gelaniluxury.bigcartel.com
