Derby Day Dressing
So often at special events men tend to get lost in the fashion shuffle—think weddings where all eyes are riveted on the bride, or Hollywood’s many red carpet moments where it’s mainly a sea of black tuxedos. But the guys are starting to get more notice for their duds and if ever there’s a time to kick it up a notch it’s on Derby Day—for inspiration just look at all those colorful silks the jockeys wear. True, we’re many miles from Kentucky with its famous horse race on the first Saturday in May, but that doesn’t mean Frederick doesn’t know how to celebrate.
We also boast of women parading in fancy hats and spring frocks and men in bow ties pulling out the stops to garner some of the attention. Again this year the United Way is hosting Juleps & Jockeys Derby Day Celebration from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on May 2 at Visitation Academy, 200 E. 2nd St., a perfect event to raise funds for the good of the community, as well as for folks to enjoy some southern fare and libations all while making a fashion statement
