Holiday on Parade

What would the season be without that great Frederick tradition, the Kris Kringle Procession? The city’s only parade features children dressed as reindeer, snowflakes, angels, elves and gifts, accompanying costumed characters such as Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, through Downtown’s streets. Look closely and you will also see characters reflecting Frederick’s German heritage, including Belsnickle and Weinacht Man, who help Kris Kringle judge whether children have been bad or good, and Krist Kindle, an angel-like messenger who leaves gifts in small baskets.  The parade kicks off this year at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11. It will start at the corner of South Carroll and West Patrick streets and conclude at the Baker Park Bandshell with the lighting of the City Tree.
