Firehouse Subs, the purveyor of half-pound meat subs with names like the Hook & Ladder, the New York Steamer and the Firehouse Hero, has opened its second Frederick location at 1700 Kingfisher Drive. Like all Firehouse locations, the restaurant features a custom, hand-painted mural. Fredericktonians will see a scene on the dining room wall that illustrates Junior Fire Company firefighters, equipped with a fire engine and fire-rescue raft, fighting the flames of a burning brick building along Carroll Creek in Downtown Frederick.

This Firehouse location is franchised by 1st Lt. Matthew Dusablon, a Bronze Star Medal with Valor recipient for his service in Iraq, and his wife, Kristin. It is a perfect match for a company that has built its reputation on support of local heroes. In 2005, Firehouse Subs created the non-profit Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation with the mission of funding life-saving equipment and educational opportunities to first-responders and public safety organizations. To date, Firehouse Subs has given $5.7 million to hometown heroes in 36 states and Puerto Rico, including more than $54,300 in Maryland. www.firehousesubs.com
