Local produce delivery service South Mountain Veggies has changed its name to Hometown Harvest, and this month is offering a challenge to its customers to eat only local, unprocessed foods for 30 days. Not only will they be eating healthy and supporting local farmers, they will be eligible for prizes. The company works with sustainable and organic farms throughout Maryland, southern Pennsylvania and Northern Virginia. Founder Tony Brusco began delivering fresh vegetables to a handful of customers from the back of his pickup four years ago and now deploys four “veggie vans.” Customers have no sign-up fees, pre-paid shares or season commitments—instead having the option to customize weekly orders or skip deliveries if desired.
